4 golf myths that every golfer should know.
- Keep your head down. Every golfer has been told this at least once. Generally it is from a mate that does not really know what you are doing wrong and it is the old go to saying. The down swing motion is so quick have you ever seen your club hit the ball. The truth is your body is generally moving up causing you to top the ball or miss it altogether. Just concentrate on hitting down on the ball and letting the loft of the club do all the work. You can also put to much stress on your neck by keeping your head down.
- You keep slicing your driver because the shaft is too flexible. “Says your club fitting mate”. It is the opposite that is true. A flexible shaft will actually make you hook the ball. The reason being by the time your hands are through the ball they have already started to turn, by the time the club face is at the ball it is closed. So you can blame the club for that errant drive.
- The lower the loft of your driver the further the ball will go. The reality is the lower the loft the more side spin is put on the ball. This can increase a slice or a hook and decrease distance. Try a driver with extra loft. Tiger Woods uses a 10.5 degree driver so depending on your club head speed I would suggest this is the lowest you go.
- You need to rotate hard and fast on your down swing to hit the ball further. Lean this and your mates will think that you have been on steroids. Steve Soule Golf Professional.
